This work combines a multitude of elements and moving parts, where land and water defy reason and gravity, often dissolving into one another. Trees manifest through painted wood textures resembling building blocks that emerge from and disappear into portals throughout the composition. The piece also incorporates printed textile on silk called "Sarasa with Figures, Birds and Fantastic Animals," which also appears in Ky Lan II. Through its abundance of differing elements, this small painting embodies the framework for the entire series: that the creation of a place or space that feels like home is constructed from complex histories and experiences, not necessarily rooted in a single regional location.
