Performances, installations, paintings and sculptures are as many artistic expressions for Nguyễn Huy An (b.1982, Vietnam) to reflect on our emotional connections with everyday materials and explore themes of memory and isolation.
In âm sáng, his second solo show at Galerie Quynh, the artist finds inspiration in the rich folk and religious traditions of Northern Vietnam –scavenging relics, curiosities and memories from temple sites, theatres and distinguished actors. The exhibition catalogue delves into the Nguyễn Huy Ant’s reflections on the threads that run between the cultural heritage and the reality of today.
Featuring “Mutated Grammar”, an essay by translator, writer and curator Nguyễn-Hoàng Quyên.
This catalogue is published after the exhibition Nguyễn Huy An : âm sáng, presented from June 13 to July 27, 2019, at Galerie Quynh, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, with the support of the British Council.
