Nguyen Phuong Linh

Nguyễn Phương Linh is a multidisciplinary artist working across installation, sculpture and video. Her practice traces fragmented and ambiguous histories embedded within geopolitical landscapes shaped by intersections of ethnicity, religion and territorial forces. Drawing on experiences of hospitals, rehabilitation, technologies of care and physical training, she explores relationships between bodies and landscapes, visibility and invisibility, weight and void. Through repetition, stillness and the transformation of materials, everyday gestures become choreographed rituals where endurance and tenderness coexist with anger, violence and intergenerational memory.

Born and raised at Nhà Sàn Studio—one of Hanoi's longest-established artist-run spaces—Nguyễn Phương Linh co-founded Nhà Sàn Collective in 2013, where she continues to serve as co-director. An open space for exchange, works-in-progress and the unexpected, the collective has become an important platform for contemporary artistic practice in Vietnam. She studied at Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti, Turin (2007–08), and later with Tobias Rehberger at Städelschule Frankfurt (2015–17).

Her work has been presented at the Uzbekistan Pavilion, Venice Biennale (2026); Tokyo Biennale (2025); Busan Biennale and the Asian Art Biennale, Taichung (2024); Listening to the Overtones of Fissure, Green Island, Taiwan (2023); documenta fifteen (2022); the Asia Pacific Triennial (2021); the Singapore, Kuandu and Shanghai Biennales (2016); and HIWAR, Darat al Funun, Jordan (2014). In 2017, she received the Han Nefkens Foundation–BACC Award for Video Art and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant.
