A member of the historic Group of 10, Tran Van Thao (b.1961, Saigon) is recognised as one of the pioneers of abstract art in Vietnam. Through rich colour fields, textured surfaces and experimental techniques such as collage and papier mâché, his paintings evoke a contemplative sense of harmony, balance and emotional resonance drawn from both landscape and everyday life.
Highlighting works from the 1990s to recent years, Tran Van Thao, the artist’s first monograph, offers an in-depth look into the practice of one of Vietnam’s foremost abstract painters.
