We are delighted to share that gallery artist Vy Trinh has been selected as one of 23 international participants in the Arts Intensive Study Program (AISP) at the Fire Station in Doha, Qatar — a leading residency and mentorship programme for emerging artists in the region under the artistic direction of Wael Shawky.
Born in 1996 in Ho Chi Minh City and now based in the United States, Trịnh works primarily in sculpture and site-responsive installation. Her practice explores how objects and their networks fluctuate between the domestic and public, reflecting and reimagining the larger socio-economic textures and conditions of contemporary Vietnam. Through materials sourced from different economies and ecologies, her works trace the cyclical lives of human and non-human things across intimate, urban, and planetary scales.
Running through 2025–2026, the AISP provides selected artists with studio space, mentorship, and sustained artistic support, culminating in a group exhibition. Operated under Qatar Museums, the Fire Station has become a key institution supporting contemporary artistic practices across the Gulf region and beyond.
Originally built in 1982 as the headquarters of Qatar’s Civil Defence under the Ministry of Interior, the building served as an active fire station for over three decades before closing its operational role in 2012. In 2013, Qatar Museums, under the vision of Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, began transforming the site into a long-term platform for artistic development, mentorship, and public engagement. Reopened in 2015, the Fire Station now stands as one of Doha’s leading contemporary art and residency hubs.
