Ha Manh Thang’s practice reflects an ongoing engagement with Vietnam’s cultural and social history through paintings that explore memory, urban transformation and the symbolic power of architecture.
Presented as the artist’s first solo exhibition in Ho Chi Minh City, HEAVEN IS A PLACE features paintings of monuments and urban landmarks that examine the relationship between constructed spaces and the ideals they embody. Through subdued palettes and layered architectural forms, the works reflect themes of historical discontinuity, displacement and cultural memory.
This catalogue accompanies Ha Manh Thang: HEAVEN IS A PLACE, presented from April 24 to May 25, 2013, at Galerie Quynh, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
